Mr. Pellikoduku Review
There is a difference between making fresh food at home and getting addicted to grub made at curry point. If you partake the latter you can’t complain, you need to swallow what he dishes out but that is not the case with our experiments at home. Even though it doesn’t taste better at times, atleast there is the satisfaction of making it hot and fresh. The same is the case with remake stories, we will have to borrow it from somewhere and work hard to give it a original look. We can’t remodel a curry but definitely we can re shape a story. Tanu Weds Manu is also a remake story, does it taste and appear the same way the original did or did they massacre the script to give it a native feel?
Bucchibabu (Sunil) comes to India from the USA after 6 years and as soon as he arrives, his parents arrange an alliance for him at Sakinetipally. The girl Anjali (Isha Chawla) impresses Bucchibabu with her Bapu like looks and figure and the parents from both the families give their approval. All is not well, Anjali asks Bucchibabu if he had ever seen himself in the mirror and with what confidence he had wanted to marry her. Scared, bewildered he lets go off the match. Even then he has a fondness for her. he leaves for Kerala for a pal’s wedding and Anjali gets pally with him. Our man mistakes it for love and the families once more get ready to get them married. Meanwhile Anjali breaks the big news to Bucchibabu that she is in love with someone and she wants his help to marry him. Like in all our films, the big hearted hero swallows his misery and with a smiling face makes arrangements for Anjali’s wedding. But whom does Anjali marry eventually?
The film is not entirely bad but it is not good either. It smacks of a stale Pizza. We have seen such stories aeons back and a boy liking a girl and the girl liking someone else and she after realising that her choice was bad returning to this man is a tried and tested theme. The film begins in a lively fashion, Ravi Babu’s encounter with Sunil, Sunil’s strange meeting with Isha Chawla and she giving him a shock of his life by revealing her persona all happens in a lively and an energetic manner but that lasts only a while. There is Mogali Rekulu serial episode which is hilarious. Ahuti Prasad, Ali, Dharmavarapu etc all seniors try their best to evoke humour but the attempts are all half hearted.
Sunil’s entry started with an introduction dance that showed his skill, he danced on par with NTR and Bunny. The director showed all his qualities of goodness, innocence and intelligence through small episodes. Isha fell flat unable to imitate Kangana and also struggling to be an original. Because she is always confined to songs and dances, she found it difficult to carry such a heavy role. To add to the misery she smokes, drinks..all this is fine in Bollywood but it gets a wee bit difficult to digest it in Telugu. By interval the story is done, there was every need to write the following scenes strongly which they never did. That is why the second part looks difficult to sit through.
The songs placement is bad and despite good dances by Sunil, we cannot connect to him. Just because Sunil sports a six pack, was it necessary to show a fight scene to display his body? He nevertheless had to carry the entire film on his shoulders. Songs failed, RR reasonably okay, camera give the film a rich look. Punch dialogues came initially but disappeared altogether in the latter part. The director wanted to make it a feel good film but you will neither find a feel nor a guddu (egg). This film is only for those who like watching Sunil dance.
Mirchi Rating : 2.75/5 - Swathi
